you know you know watching the panic dvd, i love how it's katie kay who announces ryan&spencer's little "factoids" to the crowd in the intermission. i have this awesome picture in my head of katie sitting in the lounge chewing on the end of a pen and making those up, and the boys going yeah yeah that sounds fine because she says that ryan loves pancakes and spencer has three sisters or something, and then when it gets to show she totally scraps the facts her boys approved and is all 'ryan has buns of steel and spencer really knows how to keep a beat! :D:D:D!!' and the boys are furious with her because once they've said it that way once they have to do it for the whole tour, and then they can't be mad at her because she's katie and they love her &it's kind of hilarious if you know the background info.
listen to my little 0T3-in' heart, can you hear it beating?
EDIT: Oh my God, how is she so gorgeous? ♥♥♥ i love how my priorities have changed, in the beginning i'd've been watching for ryan, now i'm all UGH SPENCER SMITH YOU *HOTASS* (it's so fucking true, oh man, watching him play the drums) and HAI KATIE KAY because whoa, her hips could cure cancer, seriously.
EDIT NO. 2: you know, i'm always glad to see katie, but putting that bias aside, i can see where people are coming from when they say that they dislike having dusty, katie and roger on during the songs on the dvd/that tour. for some of the songs, it's clear they haven't got enough room on stage/can't have enough props to actually sustain a skit. there are a few points where it looks like they've run out of steam for that song - i think it would all have been solved by letting them choreograph something for say, a minute of that song, and then just *leave the stage*. some: i'm looking especially at i write sins (nghhhh, katie's fucking hips), but it's better if you do &there's a good reason work incredibly well, in my opinion - where there's a really great way to interpret the song that leaps out at the viewer (dusty's lapdance, katie's "infidelity" and the leash, and the line dance!) it's fucking awesome, and tons of fun.
the fan dance during tonight tonight? i don't really... i've never really got that one. i can see where the idea came from, and it is gorgeous for the first minute or so, and then it kind of feels like they're like WELL WE'RE STILL OUT HERE WITH THESE THINGS NOW WHAT. that's the problem - a minute would have been fine. the swords duel during lying is PERFECT because not only is it a genius and fresh look at the song, the girls make their point and then they leave. it's all the more powerful because it doesn't linger.
there are some performances where there are great *moments* - katie playfully twitching her costume and wiggling her butt during the "lingerie" line in build god, and then the last minute or so of that performance, where it's just a wonderful descent into chaos and spencer pours water all over his cymbals and it looks like they're all having a wonderful time. however, it lags in the middle. everyone looks a bit - not lost, because obviously they're doing what they choreographed, but the audience is left wondering what their point is.
that said, nobody appears during "time to dance" which actually really disappoints me because that's probably my favourite along with there's a good reason, &i'd have loved to see what they did with it.
another thing, i'd have loved for dusty&katie to interact more with the boys. one of my favourite moments on the entire dvd is during there's a good reason when katie&roger start dancing and dusty is alone, and brendon makes this little come on, you want to? gesture at her, and then they dance together. it's lovely. of course, they have to play a show, you can only have so much of that sort of thing, but.
all that said though, i think the majority of the material was exceedingly well-judged & made everything a lot more fun.
EDIT NO. 3: god, ryan ross has women issues out the wazoo. the women in the show strip themselves for a camera, they are called "harlots" by their ringmaster, they are shown as flighty flirts (katie during i write sins, but holy fuck is she adorable doing it!) with no regards to their men's feelings, they are puppets tied up who are moved by a man (camisado), they are constantly exhibited as sexual objects (but it's better if you do) and pushed away/hurt by controlling men (but it's better if you do, again). not to mention the exhibition of girl-on-girl (lying). ryan places himself in the position of power as he frequently ignores dusty or katie when they try to get his attention during the skits. the girls are even frequently at brendon's feet.
it's awesome and kind of warped to look at, to be honest. it almost feels like the boys' backlash against the fact that they've been put in a position of sexual admiration by their own career (that is, they're playing to concert crowds made up mostly of screaming girls). they're uncomfortable with it and as a result, they've put the girls around them, overtly sexual and skimpily dressed, and they ridicule the girls' "characters" during the skits. huh! possibly i've been studying my language&feminism unit too long!
